I write this from our offices in the middle of 90+ degree weather in Seattle.
Did you say 90? Indeed I did. It's gotten hot here at times and its even hotter over there, by there
I of course mean Washington Wine Country. The grapes are taking in the heat

Washington Wine Country Collection
2006 City Revitalization Fund
Once
again, funds will be granted to towns within Washington Wine
Country to promote city revitalization and wine country
living. Through an application process towns, economic
development associations, VCBs, etc. can apply to receive
matching funds towards a variety of projects. Last years
recipients of the City Revitalization Fund were the Cities
of Richland and Kennewick and included projects for monument signage and avenue
banners.
$40K was raised at this year's 2006 Grand
Gala during a special Raise The Paddle For City
Revitalization. Washington Wine Country will again fund worthy projects
up to $15K and is looking for applications
that meet the following requirements.

harvest begins in August with Gala apples, and continues through September

- 9/2 Saint Laurent Summer Concert Series - Outdoor Summer Concert Series
every Saturday in August, through Labor Day weekend. Doors open at 6pm, event
starts at 7pm. Beautiful views of the Columbia River, sweeping gardens,
and sunsets that paint gorgeous color over the distant hills. Tickets range from

8/9 Phenolics Management Short Course, Yakima
Convention Center - This one-day short course is presented by Wine
Yakima Valley in partnership with Washington State University Extension, and Dr.
Jim Harbertson. This program is designed for both winemakers and wine grape
growers to understand where phenolics come from and how to manage them, both in
the vineyard and winery. For more information, visit

8/12 Prosser Wine & Food Fair - Nearly 3500 wine enthusiasts will gather for
the 25th Prosser Wine and Food Fair for an afternoon of fine wines and local
food specialties on August 12, 2006 from 3-9pm. Two Jazz Bands will entertain as
participants sample wine from 30 Washington wineries and food from 20 local food
vendors. Tickets are $15 presale and $20 day of event. For more information, visit

8/26 & 8/27 - Red Mountain and Columbia
Valley Tour - Join Washington Wine Tours for a a cool ride through the
Cascade Mountains, upper Yakima Valley and to the hottest spot in

The wineries of the Yakima Valley host Going
Vertical!, a wine event and tour September 1-4, 2006.
Many of the wineries across the Yakima Valley and Red
Mountain appellations will feature vertical series of
wines in the tasting rooms during this three-day
celebration.
Events include a Going Vertical! kick-off celebration at
Klipsun Vineyard, vineyard tours and seminars, an
opportunity for you to participate in a “hands-on”
blending class, learn when and how harvest decisions are
made, enjoy an in-depth program on winemaking with oak,
and more. There’s something for everyone during the
colorful fall season.
