So, you say you've never seen food talk?

Join the club, we haven't either. However, we hope we can share a few insights into our experiences with food...and there are quite a few of those!  We should introduce ourselves just a bit. "Hi...I am Krista McCorkle Davis...currently I am a fulltime mom with a 1year old--Miss Lucienne Marie Davis, (AKA Luci)--that has already tasted foie gras and champagne. My current relationship to food and wine revolves around cooking for Miss Luci and her father, Mike.  (Little known fact: chefs rarely cook at home. When they get off work, they are ready for good, solid comfort food. Also, they rarely do dishes...I think this stems from spending all day with a crew of human dishwashers that magically make all the piles of used pots and pans disappear. This is not a complaint, just an observation.) Before my current career which began 1 year ago, I was very involved with the Washington wine scene (marketing, promotion and events) and before that the retail wine scene in New York, NY, (buying, selling and opening new wine stores.)  I am also a 1997 graduate of the Culinary Institute in Poughkeepsie, New York. I am currently fascinated with Indian Cooking...just made the most delicious lamb curry that we washed down with a juicy local Syrah."

"Hi, I am Mike Davis...the Executive Chef and Owner of 26brix Restaurant in Walla Walla, Washington.  I am the very proud papa of Miss Luci and I always scramble her eggs with just a bit of duck fat--we like to call that "palate development." When I was 9 years old, I wrote a letter to Julia Child asking for cooking school recommendations. She wrote back and I was hooked. I've been cooking since I was 13 years old. Got my first "gig" at a country club in New Orleans. I attended two separate cooking schools, however I dedided early on that I would rather learn hands on. Everything I know & learned are from life experiences, other chefs, collegues, reading, and tasting. 26brix has been open now for 2 1/2 years. It's a true family affair with my mother and father as my business partners and my older brother as our general manager. In effect, our life is very, very much about good food and wine.

When we talked about doing this blog, we tried to imagine what we could share with you that you might be at least vaguely interested in. We will share recipes, wine suggestions, seasonal information, and even great local places to buy terrific produce and ingredients. We also want to talk about our own restaurant experiences. Yes, we are going to do a little reviewing!

As we write, we are on our way to Portland, truly a hot city right now for great food. We will share some of our finds with you when we return. Until then, Krista's going to post a little info on wine for turkey sandwiches...what?? You don't wash your Turkey Sands down with vino? Well, if you don't, you should try it!

I love the idea of a blog like this!  (Until now, I was unaware of this - but I just got the lastest e-version of Juice.  I recently joined the Oregon wine board with the aim to grow my own business.)  My husband and I live in Portland, but dream of Walla Walla.  We absolutely love the area, and have visited several times.  Some day we'd like to be there full time.  I look forward to reading future blogs, and learning more about your great wine country.   Cheers!
